Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks celebration in New York City will expand across both the East River and Hudson River to mark the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
Unlike recent years, which typically focused on one river, the 2026 event will feature fireworks launched from multiple barges positioned on both waterways, creating a much larger citywide display. Officials say the expanded setup is intended to honor the United States semiquincentennial — the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The event is expected to significantly increase viewing opportunities across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and parts of New Jersey, while also creating major street closures, security zones, and large crowds throughout the city. Macy’s and city officials are expected to release detailed viewing locations and transportation guidance closer to July 4th.
The overall takeaway is that New York City is planning one of its largest and most symbolic Independence Day celebrations in years as part of the nationwide America 250 festivities.
